Try challenging the norm and experimenting with bold colours to brighten up the colder months!
When it comes to winter makeup do’s and dont’s the rules used to be simple: deep lip colours, smokey eyes and matte, full coverage foundation. 2019 is the year we are breaking these rules and embracing a more modern approach with dewy skin, bright shades and glossy finishes.
Normally we reach for our darker eye shadow palettes with deep purple and burgundy shades in winter. This seasons trend is bright coloured eye shadows. Try colour blocking and use one bright colour over the whole lid. This will be a nice contrast to the more muted tones that are out in fashion. Neon colours are also a popular trend, coming straight from the runways in London, Paris and New York.

Another winter myth includes wearing more full coverage foundations. There is nothing wrong with a full coverage foundation if that is your go to coverage however, 2019 trends are leaning more towards natural dewy, radiant skin. In winter, our skin can be dryer, so opting for a more hydrating or dewy finish foundation will give your skin that pick me up it might need. This will leave your skin looking glowing and healthy. Green coloured correcting primers can help with any redness you may have in winter therefore, you won’t need as much coverage to cover the redness.
One winter trend that is useful to follow is changing your foundation colour seasonally. Most people get a tan in summer however, in winter when we are not spending so much time in the sun our skin can get lighter. Depending on how much you tan you might want to go a shade or two lighter in winter.
When you think of winter lipstick shades we normally think of darker vampy colours however, with the return of gloss being a popular lip choice we are finding more people are opting for a subtle pink or peach gloss. With new formulas of gloss including hydrating ingredients your lips will look plump and healthy this winter.

Cream blush is a great new trend that can help freshen up the skin in winter giving us a healthy, glowing complexion. The rule for winter is to change your blush to something more matte. It is also popular to wear colours like mauve as they compliment the darker tones used on the lips and eyes. With the transition to gloss and lighter eye makeup it is a good idea to use lighter colours on the cheeks like peach, coral and baby pinks. This helps bring colour back into the skin which we often lack in winter, helping us appear more youthful and healthy.
Try experimenting with these new trends for a fresh new look!
